WATER BAPTISM FORMULAS:
What is correct in our opinion.
Well..., here goes, here is what we feel is correct about water baptism formulas, Jesus name? father, Son, Holy Spirit? Our Lord? Which or what is correct? I have some wisdom on the subject that may help.
Some Christian folks don't even baptize at all saying it is not necessary for one reason or another. Some say Jesus has returned already and therefore we need not have to baptize any longer. My answer to this misunderstanding are these questions. When did Jesus return? Where did He return? If He did, then why is there no record of it in history at all? We know from history that Jesus has not returned in His Second Coming. There is no recordation of the event in history. At Jesus' return certain things will happen, prophesied in the Word of God, those have not happened yet. Therefore, we still baptize as always via full immersion into the water and then back up out of the water, no sprinkling.
So, what formula do we use at a baptism? Apostolic's say it must be in Jesus' name. Others say it must be in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Yet others say it can be in the name of the Lord. The Bible records it all three ways. Jesus said in Matthew 28 to baptize in Father, Son, Holy Ghost. Yet Peter said to use the name of Jesus in Acts 2. In Acts somewhere it is yet recorded to use in the name of the Lord. The Apostolic's argue often that you are not Saved unless one is baptized in Jesus' name or that you are a second class Christian in the least. Mainstream Christianity argues, mainly Baptist and Pentecostals and some others, that it must be the formula Jesus said to use in Matthew 28. So, the fight goes on.
Here is what we here at this ministry feel and subscribe to...: To eliminate fighting and bring clarity and union in the Body, we will use both formulas, sighting first Jesus' method, then after use in the name of Jesus our Lord. This way when asked how have you been baptized, one can answer I have been baptized in Jesus' name and in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit and in the name of the Lord. This way the fight is off and we can stress unity in the Body rather than separation.
The actual formula is thus: I baptize you in the name of the Father, and in the name of the Son, Jesus, and in the name of Holy Ghost and in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, I baptize you now. Then, submerse the candidate in the water fully making sure he or she is fully immersed and then lift the candidate back up out of the water.
Therefore, in this ministry we baptize in: the Name of the Father, and in the name of the Son, and in the Holy Spirit(Ghost) and in the Name of Jesus our Lord and Savior, we baptize you now. And then we fully submerge the candidate in water and bring him or her back up out of the water.
THE REASON WE DO IT LIKE THIS IS BECAUSE IT SOMEWHAT STOPS THE RELIGIOUS IDIOTS FROM ACCUSING THE BAPTIZED OF NOT BEING BAPTIZED CORRECTLY. The reason I do baptisms like this is to stop the idiots from hurting people. This is the way Father showed me to baptize people. Our certificates read the same. There is no question now.
Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Cousins
